The concert, that took place on 7 November
1999 in Staßfurt, was the best ever I went to. Okay, altogether it
just was my 3rd Alphaville concert, but this gig was extraordinary – not
only in my opinion. The good thing about it was, that I finally was lucky
to get the single “the impossible dream” at the Golden Feeling – stand,
after they even had to look for it in their remaining stock.
I was astonished to see Alphaville on
the stage punctually at 9 pm, because it’s not typically for them, how
you know. But they just forgot to care about a supporting act and the audience
started becoming impatient. That’s why Alphaville was forced to start earlier.
On the 2 days before Alphaville had gigs, as well and I was afraid to see
Marian in an unmotivated mood, but he was relaxed and in high spirits,
like I’ve never seen him before – almost like doped. He really gave everything.
Instead of his usual announcement Marian
said before “forever young”: “Well, I’m not going to say it today. You
know it, so...” The best of all was “new horizons”, because Marian said
at the beginning of this song, that we should look inside ourselves. And
if we would do it properly, we could see the colours of the rainbow (“...you
are a rainbow..”), exactly like around us. Later on, in the middle of the
song, he continued telling. He said, beside the colours there also exist
a grey place inside us and we shall try to colourize it, as well. He really
did it well, but I only can summarize what he has said. The text of
“monkey in the moon” was printed out on a DIN A4-seized sheet of paper,
that stuck on the stage in front of Marian’s feet (we stood in front of
the stage, i.e. we had the best places). Because of his facial expression,
Marian must have thought the same like we did: “Nobody is able to read
the script!” Before “wishful thinking” Marian said: “Okay, most of you
may already know the story. But I’m gonna tell it again, anyway, so that
you are really able to understand it.” And once more she went to heaven
at the end... The encore with “dance with me” was revised one more time:
Marian sings higher now and shows more feelings. My personal summary: It
was worth putting up with the long journey to Staßfurt. I’m impatiently
waiting for the next year and the complete revised programme. I would welcome
the fact, to see Alphaville live in the south-west of Germany, because
it would be much cheaper for me, regarding all the travel costs. Unfortunately
the concert in Ludwigsburg was cancelled.
At the end I only wanna say (with fond
memories of “sounds like a melody”): follow me, follow me, FOLLOW ME, FOLLOW
ME!!!!
